Dietary supplements are invite-only
Unlike most TikTok Shop categories, you can't just list a dietary supplement and start selling. Eligibility is restricted to sellers who are specifically invited into the category by their Account Manager (AM). If you haven't been invited, the first step isn't building a listing — it's contacting your AM to request access and confirm what documentation they'll need from you (TikTok Shop Seller Center).
Dietary supplements are also layered under TikTok Shop's broader Restricted Products Guidelines, so an invited seller still has to comply with both the supplement-specific policy and the platform-wide restricted products rules.
Which supplement types are permitted
Even within the invite-only category, not every kind of supplement is allowed. TikTok Shop currently permits:
- Beauty supplements
- Fitness supplements
- Vitamin, mineral, and general wellness supplements
- Herbal supplements
- Sexual wellness supplements, including testosterone boosters and sexual performance enhancers
Two categories are prohibited outright, regardless of documentation: weight management supplements (appetite suppressants, carb blockers, diet shakes, fat burners, meal replacement bars and drinks) and mental wellness supplements. If your line includes a weight-loss SKU, plan to sell it elsewhere — it won't clear TikTok Shop's category rules no matter how it's certified.
Documentation manufacturers and importers must submit
If you manufacture, import, or repackage the product, TikTok Shop can require four categories of documentation:
| Document | Key requirements |
|---|---|
| FDA Food Facility Registration | A third-party verification letter or an FDA Direct screenshot showing the registered establishment name (must match the label), address, operation type, and current validity |
| cGMP certification | Must be currently valid and confirm compliance with 21 CFR Part 111 |
| Product lab test report | At least one valid report, issued within the last 180 days, covering microbiological testing, heavy metals, contaminants (pesticides/residual solvents), and label-claim potency verification |
| Label images | Front, back, and Supplement Facts panel — showing product name, net weight, ingredients, serving size, and manufacturer/distributor name and address |
Lab reports have to come from a TikTok Shop Accredited Partner Laboratory — currently Eurofins, NSF International, SGS, UL Solutions, TÜV Süd, Mérieux NutriSciences, Intertek, or Certified Laboratories — or from an in-house lab paired with an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation or a compliant cGMP certificate. The report has to match the selling account's name and address, and if you're the manufacturer, the manufacturer listed on the report has to match your account too (TikTok Shop Seller Center).
A separate, stricter track for infant and toddler products
TikTok Shop maintains an even narrower allowed list for infant and toddler nutritional products — limited to items like vitamin D drops, iron drops, probiotics, and basic multivitamins for ages 1-3. These require an additional FD&C Act compliance attestation confirming the product is correctly classified, properly labeled, and compliant with FDA and FTC marketing rules.
Different rules for resellers
If you're reselling rather than manufacturing, the documentation set shifts. Instead of facility registration and cGMP certificates, resellers need a purchase invoice or proof of purchase from the manufacturer or distributor that's dated within the last 180 days, matches the selling account's name and address, and reflects a combined purchase of at least 400 units. Retail order confirmations don't count — TikTok Shop wants a genuine wholesale-level invoice, and reserves the right to contact the listed vendor to verify it. Resellers still need the same accredited-lab test report and label images required of manufacturers.
Content rules: what gets a video or listing taken down
Getting the category approval is only half the compliance picture — TikTok Shop's content rules for health-related claims are enforced separately, and violations here are the more common reason sellers lose visibility after launch. The core rule: non-OTC products cannot make medical claims of any kind, and OTC claims are only allowed when they match the product's Drug Facts "Uses" section exactly (TikTok Shop — Responsible Health-Related Content).
Specific claim types that trigger enforcement:
- Medical claims — anything implying a product treats, cures, prevents, or alleviates a disease or condition, e.g. "This supplement prevents heart disease" or "My psoriasis disappeared"
- Wellness claims — statements that a product prevents or cures a physical, mental, or emotional wellness condition, even with a disclaimer attached
- Weight management claims — quantified or timeline weight-loss/muscle-gain promises, before-and-after body imagery, or comparisons to prescription drugs, GLP-1 medications, or anabolic steroids
- GLP-1 branding — using "GLP," "GLP-1," or "glucagon-like peptide-1" in a title or description, except for products clearly marketed as supportive of people already using GLP-1 medications
- Misleading visuals — edited or filtered before-and-after photos, or doctor/nurse imagery that implies clinical endorsement
There's more room than sellers often assume for general wellness framing — energy, immunity, hair and skin health, gut balance, and stress recovery messaging is generally acceptable, as long as it stays away from disease claims or quantified weight/muscle promises.
Enforcement and how takedowns happen
TikTok Shop lists three levels of enforcement for policy violations: content removal, listing suppression, and account-level penalties. US-based creators promoting OTC products also have a technical requirement — enabling the Geo-Toggle feature in both videos and LIVE streams — and failing to do so can result in content removal on its own, independent of any claims issue. After a violation, sellers or creators may need to complete a quiz or review before they're allowed to promote health-related products again.
Pre-approval checklist
- Confirm your Account Manager has invited you into the Dietary Supplements category before building listings
- Verify your product type isn't on the prohibited list (weight management, mental wellness)
- Gather FDA Food Facility Registration proof, a valid cGMP certificate, and a lab report from an approved partner lab issued within 180 days
- Photograph front, back, and Supplement Facts labels exactly as they'll appear on the product sold
- Run every product video and listing description against the medical, wellness, and weight-management claim restrictions before publishing
- Enable Geo-Toggle before promoting any OTC-adjacent product in the US
Don't rebuild this checklist for every SKU.
The Amazon & TikTok Shop Compliance Checklist bundles a 22-item TikTok Shop workbook with an 8-page practitioner's guide — documentation requirements, approved labs, and a claims comparison table so your listings don't get flagged after launch.
